About the SuitSak

Introduction

The SuitSak is a garment bag that can be worn on your back. It allows you to carry your suit, shirt, tie, belt, shoes, toiletries, lunch, laptop, files, books and almost anything else you need for a day’s work. The SuitSak is a revolutionary Green idea that allows people to leave their cars at home and ride their bikes to work and still look good when they get there.

The SuitSak will allow you to save money, save gas, reduce your carbon footprint and be healthier. Imagine how much of a difference it would make for your pocketbook if you rode your bike to work even once a week.

If you were to start riding your bike to work, think about how that might affect your waistline. Your new workout routine can be as simple as changing how you go to work. The best part is that you will still be able to look great in your work clothes because you will arrive, wrinkle-free.

Evolution

The idea came to me in September 2008 when I bought a new bike. I was really excited about riding it and thought that it would be great to ride it to the office. When I asked the salesman if there was some kind of bag to carry a suit to work, he looked at me like I was crazy. After that experience I went online to find a solution and came up empty handed. There was nothing out there that could solve this problem.

So what did I do next? I went to the drug store and bought a $5 sewing kit (I saw the same one later for $1.50 and was furious) and sewed on some straps that I cut off an old backpack.

Most of the sewing was done while I sat in bed. I really wanted to ride to work and I couldn’t sleep until it was done. The last needle broke just as I finished.

I used this first prototype for a little while but I really needed something better so I had someone sew it together for me. Once that was done, I showed it around and got some ideas from people on how to make it better, found someone to produce it and now here we are.

About the Inventor

My name is Chris Thom. I am an Investment Advisor, born and raised in Vancouver. I love my work and jump out of bed every morning to get there. I am also an avid cyclist. Vancouver is such a great city for riding and it is only getting better. More bike lanes and bike routes are showing up and they are becoming more popular every year.

Another area that I am passionate about is the environment. We see so much waste in North America and I try to do my part to waste and pollute as little as possible. I want to see more people being active and driving less and it makes me very happy to have invented a product that will help people do that.
